The aim of this project was to initiate the urban regeneration of the heritage precinct of Whanganui to enhance the central heart of the central business district.

The process involved the analysis of the existing town plan, pedestrian networks, infrastructure and built fabric to determine opportunities for greater connectivity within the central precinct.

The design focused on the improved inter-relationships between the Sarjeant gallery, the Davis Library, the Whanganui Museum and the War Memorial Hall through the generation of good active public spaces and pedestrian linkages.

Bossley collaborated with other consultants including Athfield, Mitchell Stout and Architectus. The process also involved extensive consultation with local Iwi, Whanganui District Council, and principle organisations for each of the heritage buildings, culminating in a series of public stakeholder presentations prior to a public referendum on the design proposal.
