The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design Awards

We are proud to share that Ngā Hau Māngere bridge has received an International Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in the Infrastructure category. The awards had over 850 entries from around the world and recognises how design can positively impact the human environment.
Since 2004, The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd. have organised The International Architecture Awards to honour “the best and significant new buildings, landscape architecture, and planning projects designed and/or built by the world’s leading architects, landscape architects, and urban planners”.
Congratulations to all involved in the project, including the many staff at Waka Kotahi who were involved, Structural Engineers Aurecon, Landscapers Isthmus, Resolve Group, Blacksand Bronze, iwi artists Johnson Witehira and Sunnah Thompson, and our wonderful Contractors McConnell Dowell. We would also like to acknowledge mana whenua and all the school children and local residents who participated in the public consultation sessions and contributed so much enthusiasm to the process and helped weave together the many features, design elements, and local narratives that resulted in this lovely project.
